"'What is truth?" said jesting Pilate,
and would not stay for an answer."
I have not forgotten that when Pilate said this
he was about to leave the judgment hall.
- Sir Owen Dixon
Sir Owen Dixon was a Justice of the High Court from 1929 until 1952 when he was appointed Chief Justice. He was sworn in as Chief Justice at a sitting of the Full Court in Sydney on 21 April 1952. "Jesting Pilate" is an expression derived from Bacon's Essay on Truth and it also bears the name of my latest treasure. Finally I may devote time for some leisurely reading to learn from one of Australia's legal greats...
